1. The process the prisoners go through is long and tiring. First, they were split up between men and women. Then they were split up by age. This was actually singling out the ones who were useless to the Germans. Those who were useless were killed immediately. Next, they were assigned to barracks where they would suffer from hunger and frostbite. There were also random selections of the weak workers who could die anyday, whenever the Germans wanted. Also, Jews were sent to various different camps away from anyone they know. Eliezer and his father tried to stay together but they couldn't stick together for long. They were split up and sent to different camps, only getting to see each other occasionally.
2. The one thing that remains at Birkenau is the mass burnings of Jews. Although conditons became worse and worse as time went on, Birkenau never gave the Jews chances. They killed them eveyday in hundreds. Eliezer saw the smoke and ashes of other Jews in Birkenau. He saw the black smoke coming out of the chimneys and smelt the rotten smell of burning flesh.
3. One uncertainty the Jews constantly had in mind was the day it was their time to be burned. Every shower or gathering, they feel that uncertainty of if it's actually what the Germans say it is. The shower heads could let out poison or they could lock the doors and burn them in the blink of an eye. Another uncertainty the prisoners constantly had in mind was if their families were still out there somewhere. Right at he beginning whole families were sent in different directions and lines. Eliezer hadn't see his mother or sister since they got seperated in Birkenau. Who knows where they ended up? This is what goes through Eliezer's mind everyday.
4. One of the guards Eliezer and his father had were very nice. He brought them extra bread and his son often gave them extra resources also. Eliezer and the other Jews were very thankful for this because it kept them from being that much more hungry. Other guards were not as helpful as others though. When they were transferred to another camp, their guard only cared about himself. Eliezer even caught him lying down with a young Polish girl. He was slacking on his job and had no humanity towards the Jews.

Night
Critical Stance:
The first main action of the government was when all of the foreign Jews were deported. When Moshe the Beadle returned with the story of what happened to the deportees, nobody believed him. They didn't believe that the Germans would shoot babies mid-air. They assured themselves that it was too inhumane, nobody could do that. The next main action of the government was when Elie's father got called into a meeting. After the meeting, he explained to everyone that they were getting deported. At first, the people felt shocked and couldn't believe what was happening. But they soon assured themselves that it was nothing bad, that they were just being moved to work in factories because of the war. They began to pack thinking that nothing bad was going to happen. Another main action of the government was when they were on the train near the internment camps. Madame Schacter's nightmares warned of people being burned, but everyone thought it was crazy. One night when they saw the smoke and smelled things being burned, it crossed people's mind that the crazy lady's dreams might be true. This was the first time people considered that the Germans were doing some bad things. This was the moment they questioned if they were actually going to work in factories.
Dialect Journals
- "Without passion, without haste, they slaughtered their prisoners." (pg. 4)
This was when Moshe the Beadle returned from being deported. He told a story of how the Germans were killing prisoners without hesitation. This was important to the story because the reader got a taste of what the Germans were doing to the innocent Jews. Although Moshe the Beadle's stories were so detailed, nobody believed him and they didn't worry about what the Germans would do next. Also, this is important to the story because Eliezer's family could have moved at this moment, but their refusal to believe the stories results to them being deported later on.
2. "The Germans were already in town, the Fascists were already in power, the verdict had already been pronounced, yet the Jews of Sighet continued to smile." (pg. 7)
This was when the Germans started to come inside Eliezer's town and order them to give up their valuable belongings. This is important to the story because the people of the town could obviously see that the Germans were taking their things for no reason, yet they believed that they were doing it for the good cause of the war. The town still refues to connect Moshe the Beadle's story and what was going on before their very eyes.
3. "'I have terrible news,' he said at last. 'Deportation'" (pg. 11)
This was when Elizer's town got the call that they were being deported. This was important to the story because people started to get a little worried of why they were being deported. Eventually, they tricked themselves again to thinking that it was for a good cause. They made up their own theory that they were going to work in factories to help the war. These made up stories were keeping them going but it was also helping the Germans to disguise their true plans for the Jews.
4. "... a piercing cry split the silence: 'Fire! I can see a fire! I can see a Fire!'" (pg. 22)
The crazy lady who had gone mad yelled out stories of people being burned while they were on the train. People thought she was crazy at first, but when they saw the fires outside the windows, their suspicions began to rise against the Gemans. This was a turning point in the book when the Jews began to realize that her stories might be right and that they were going to be burned alive by the Germans.
5. "... those children in the flames." (pg. 30)
This was when the Jews' suspicions became reality. This was an extremely important part of the story because Eliezer begins to realize what the Germans are really planning to do. Unlike some other Jews, he starts to think that the Germans might be the bad guys now. He begins to realize that the Germans are actually capable of doing those inhumane acts.

Holocaust
From the 1930's - 1940's, concentration camps in Germany killed about 6 million Jewish people. When Adolf Hitler became dictator of Germany, he ordered all Jews to be put in concentration camps. They were killed by being suffocated in poison gas, by being burned in rooms, and by being shot. They were killed in rooms by the hundreds. And thousands were killed each day. Adolf Hitler did this because he believed that Jews were just not needed anymore. He wanted everyone to be pure Germans. His expert plans worked because nobody knew what was going on. He kept his plans to himself and soldiers who were trusted and close to him. Jews were being deported to Germany with them not even knowing what was going on. An overall impression of this is that it was wrong and Adolf's judgement was totally over the line. Even Germany woke up and realized what they have done. In 1953, Germans made payments to Jews with ancestors that were wrongfully executed.
Gas chambers, concentration camps, and deaths camps, are where six billion jews died from Hitlers order. People look at this as wrong because of the fact that one man can split many families as he takes over their countries. Many jews would have to starve to death, many were poisoned in chambers. Most of the Jews didn't really know what was going on and some of them would think they were going to shower but what came out of the shower was gas. The Holocaust began in 1933 when Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany. It ended in 1945 when Allied powers defeated the Nazis. This is very heart dropping because, if we put our selfs in their shoes, how would we feel, how would we try to survive, it is very hard because we just don't wan a be in their shoes, and we don't want to even think about how they felt. Jews and their family' s will never be forgotten. In conclusion in our world today their are still wrong things going on. But when we look back it shows that many people sacrificed for us.

My Allusion Final
Been smaller than the rest
But definately not the worst
Others tower over
And have the upper hand
But it doesn't matter
Because my skills overpower
But definately not the worst
Others tower over
And have the upper hand
But it doesn't matter
Because my skills overpower
Faster than the cat
Stronger than the bulldog
Sweet like the duckling
But still the mouse of the family
Challenging my siblings
And always winning
Running around the house
Knocking down everything
Too nimble and quick
Cannot be caught
Jumping and crawling
Then stopping
To pick up my fallen brother
And get him back on his feet
Helping that ugly duckling who is lost and scared
Taking him in after he fell behind his group
And picking him up
Letting him follow
And teaching him along the way
Because I know what it feels like
I've been the loner
So I get people out of there
To a better place
Rascal and curious
Roaming to dangerous places
With bigger foes around
But showing them up
Showing them who is better
That being bigger
Doesn't mean better
That size is just a trait
Not something important
Because anyone can be the best
Stronger than the bulldog
Sweet like the duckling
But still the mouse of the family
Challenging my siblings
And always winning
Running around the house
Knocking down everything
Too nimble and quick
Cannot be caught
Jumping and crawling
Then stopping
To pick up my fallen brother
And get him back on his feet
Helping that ugly duckling who is lost and scared
